Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 15, 2026 · Last Updated: February 15, 2026

SlopSpotter ("we," "us," or "our") operates the SlopSpotter mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your information.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Username (chosen by you)
  • Email address
  • Hashed password (we never store your password in plain text)

1.2 Gameplay Data

When you play the game, we automatically collect:

  • Your responses to each image (real/fake judgments)
  • Response times and accuracy per image and category
  • Game mode selections, session duration, and scores
  • Streak data, badge progress, and performance metrics
  • Category-level accuracy breakdowns (e.g., portraits, landscapes, digital art)

1.3 Device & Technical Data

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • IP address (used for security and approximate geolocation at the country level)
  • Crash logs and performance diagnostics

1.4 Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not access your camera, microphone, contacts, or photos
  • We do not track your location via GPS
  • We do not collect financial or payment information directly (handled by app store providers)

2. How We Use Your Data

In short: We use your data to run the game, make it better, and contribute to AI detection research. Your gameplay data is valuable — it helps us build a smarter game and advances the broader effort to detect AI-generated content.

2.1 To Operate & Personalize the Game

  • Authenticate your account and maintain your profile
  • Track your scores, streaks, badges, and leaderboard position
  • Adaptive gameplay: We analyze your per-category accuracy to build personalized decks that target your weaknesses and adjust difficulty in real time
  • Deliver game modes, results screens, and performance insights

2.2 To Improve the Service

  • Analyze aggregate gameplay patterns to balance difficulty curves
  • Identify images that are too easy or too hard and refine our content library
  • Improve the adaptive difficulty algorithm based on player performance data
  • Fix bugs, improve performance, and develop new features

2.3 For AI & Machine Learning Research

  • We use gameplay data — including human judgments of real vs. AI-generated images, accuracy patterns, response times, and error distributions — to train, evaluate, and improve machine learning models related to AI-generated content detection
  • This data may be used internally or shared with third-party research partners, academic institutions, and commercial entities for AI/ML training and research purposes
  • When shared externally, gameplay data is aggregated or de-identified so that it is not reasonably linkable to your identity. We do not share your username, email, or account credentials with third parties for research purposes

2.4 To Communicate With You

  • Send service-related notifications (e.g., account security, policy updates)
  • Respond to support requests
  • With your consent, send promotional updates about new features or events

3. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • AI/ML Research Partners: De-identified and aggregated gameplay data (human judgments, accuracy metrics, response patterns) may be shared with or licensed to third parties for the purpose of training and improving AI detection models. This data does not include your name, email, or account information.
  • Service Providers: We use third-party services for hosting, analytics, and infrastructure. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect your information.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change.

We do not sell your personal account information (name, email) to advertisers or data brokers. We do not serve targeted ads.

4. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for as long as your account is active
  • Gameplay data linked to your account is retained for as long as your account exists
  • De-identified gameplay data that has been aggregated or anonymized for research purposes may be retained indefinitely, as it is no longer linked to your identity
  • If you delete your account, we remove the association between your identity and your gameplay sessions (see Section 5)

5. Your Rights & Choices

5.1 Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you delete your account:

  • Your username, email, and profile information are permanently deleted
  • The link between your identity and your gameplay sessions is permanently severed
  • Your scores are removed from leaderboards
  • Previously de-identified or aggregated data that has already been used for research or shared with third parties cannot be recalled, as it is no longer associated with you

5.2 Data Access & Portability

You may request a copy of your personal data by contacting us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

5.3 Marketing Communications

You can opt out of promotional emails at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any marketing email or by adjusting your notification preferences in the app.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Hashed and salted passwords (bcrypt)
  • Role-based access controls and audit logging
  • Regular security reviews and rate limiting

No system is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

SlopSpotter is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at [email protected].

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

9. U.S.-Only Service & Geographic Restrictions

SlopSpotter is operated from and intended exclusively for users within the United States. The Service, its servers, and all data processing are based in the United States and governed solely by U.S. law.

The Service is not available to residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are a resident of the United States and are not located in, or a resident of, any EEA member state, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland.

If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk and are solely responsible for compliance with your local laws. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available for use in any jurisdiction outside the United States.

10. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights

Under the CCPA, the sharing of de-identified gameplay data for AI/ML research may constitute a "sale." De-identified data that is no longer reasonably linkable to your identity is not subject to CCPA opt-out requirements. To exercise any CCPA rights, contact us at [email protected].

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Service and updating the "Last Updated" date. For significant changes affecting how we use your data, we will provide prominent notice (e.g., in-app notification or email). Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
